Successful first week of school!

Week one is under our wings!!! I think the week went pretty well. There are so many new procedures that it takes a while to get into the NEW "swing". I asked them how middle school compares to elementary school and one student said, "It's better....so much more freedom" I thought that was interesting.....I think that because we don't walk them in lines anywhere, and they get to move between classes by themselves, they feel more freedom. Cute! They ARE growing up and need to learn to think for themselves and make good choices.

In Math...we ALL had our supplies on Friday so we set up our binders! We are diving into FRACTIONS....we'll play an estimation game early next week and then we'll start computing with fractions. We also took a multiplication test. Some of us are right on track and have them all memorized. Some of us need to pull out the flashcards and review. I'll send a letter home Monday to let you know where you stand.

In SS.....we made our globes!!! We will complete them on Monday. Make sure you have all the needed supplies to finish in class. We had an incident with the globes while making them and I got a bit upset. I think it's important to treat our room and everyone in it with respect. The cleaning service spent multiple hourse cleaning the building, including the carpets this summer. I did not want to see them dirtied on the second day of school. I didn't think the students were being very respectful of the school property and told them so. I like to do lots of projects and wanted to set the expectation early. We can do a lot in the room, but we need to take care of what we have. Anyhow.....painting went better and we ended on a good note!

We started "healthy habits" in Advisory. We will be spending a couple of weeks learning about healthy habits and trying to incorporate them into our lives.

Almost EVERYONE in the class has committed to having their Best Year Ever!! I'm SO excited about this. Monday we'll paint and decorate our coins so that we have a constant reminder of our commitment!! YEA.....

Enjoy the rest of the weekend....even if my Spartans didn't beat CMU~!!!!

First Day Of School!!!

Well....we successfully completed the FIRST day of 6th grade!! I think everyone did a GREAT job adjusting to so many new things!

Some highlights.....
* We all got into our lockers!

* We watched President Obama as he spoke to public school students across the USA. Ask your child about his message. I thought it was very powerful. He told kids that you have to commit yourself to a good education...you have to work hard.....you have to perservere.....and you have to have a good attitude. No quitting when things get tough - that's a message we all need to hear.

* We survived the long lines at lunch:)

* We are bringing lots of information home to be read/signed and brought back by Friday!

Tomorrow we dive into our BEST YEAR EVER!!!
